On June 9 and 10, 2003, Attorney Michael J. Petro successfully defended Derrick Riddle against four charges of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon in front of a Cook County, Illinois jury. Mr. Riddle was facing a potential of three years in prison if convicted of the charges.
The jury trial was held in front of the Honorable Thomas M. Davy. Mr. Petro's defense involved the extensive use of defense prepared diagrams and photos. After two days of trial, the jury only needed 48 minutes to find Mr. Riddle innocent of all charges.
In a statement after the case, Mr. Riddle stated that he was happy that the truth finally came out. With respect to Attorney Michael J. Petro's performance, Mr.Riddle stated that Mr. Petro's preparation, presentation and cross-examination of witnesses was outstanding. He further stated that he would "highly recommend (Mr. Petro) to anyone that was in trouble."
