On March 23, 2005, V.B., an over the road truck driver, was arrested in Chicago for unknowingly transporting 10,000 pounds of marijuana in the trailer of his sealed and locked truck. Despite his pleas of ignorance, V.B. was charged with trafficking and held without bond.
The stakes were high for V.B. If convicted, he faced a minimum of nine years in prison and deportation to a country he had not lived in over 30 years. On April 6, 2005, a motion to suppress evidence was litigated on behalf of V.B. by Attorney Michael J. Petro.
After hearing the evidence, the Judge agreed with Attorney Michael J. Petro and suppressed the marijuana evidence because the police illegally searched and seized V.B. truck and trailer.Based on the ruling of the court, on April 21, 2005, the Cook County prosecutor dismissed the case against V.B. As a result, V.B. is happily at home with his family in the United States.
